The conference is organized by members of the UNESCO club "Gulf Stream", GUO "Grammar school №12 of Minsk", "Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs".
The opening ceremony took place in National centre for children and youth art and brought together more than 200 participants from Minsk, Brest, Borisov and Grodno. Among special guests there were Victor Radzivinowski, Representative of UN office in Belarus, Julia Novichenok, UNICEF Communication officer, Alla Kozuchits, National Coordinator of UNESCO Associated schools in Belarus, Natalia Pristrom, Secretary General of Belarusian Association of UNESCO clubs, and representatives of JLLS Mobile TeleSystems, General partner of the conference.
United Nations modeling is a kind of role-playing game, where each delegate represents its country and proposes solutions for global world problems. However, this game is not actually a game in its full meaning. Delegates’ work has to follow strict rules, which is the only way to model the real structure and practice of United Nations. During four days very hard but surely interesting work was waiting for the participants in 6 committees: Security Council, Disarmament and International Security Committee, Economical and Financial Committee, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee and new ones –UN Crisis Committee and International Council for Science.
The problems of international espionage, overpopulation, ethical sides of cloning and eugenics, economic sanctions were the primary topics for discussions. In order to participate in the debates successfully, delegates needed to use specific skills of international diplomacy, make significant decisions very quickly and communicate with other representatives of different countries. In addition, students had to use the English language in negotiation and conversations, as it is traditionally the official language of Model United Nations conferences.
The Orgteam of the conference did its best to make the 4th session of GYMUN an unforgettable one. Each participant of the conference got a special delegate’s set with GYMUN’s emblem, best delegates got special prizes from general partner JLLS Mobile TeleSystems.
The Organization Team gratefully acknowledges and wishes to thank the following for assistance UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Belarus, Republican Public Organization “Belarusian Association of UNESCO clubs, General partner JLLS Mobile TeleSystems, National Centre for Children and Youth Art and Gymnasium 12.
GYMUN orgteam is looking forward to seeing everyone next year.
